1ra Feria de Terratitlan
Translation by Maria Di Paola Blum

Terranova Institute celebrated mother’s and father’s day on May 31st. Mothers and their friends had attended in the school premises on May 11 the conference “How to be a complete woman” by Adriana Corona, very well known by her radio messages transmitted in 99.5 F. M, In that occasion Adriana shared with all her experience as woman, mother and professional. We were moved hearing from her that only by being ourselves, without the extremes of feminism or by imitating men we would reach fulfillment as women, as mothers and as professionals. With Adriana’s message still fresh in our minds we arrived to the celebration of father and mother. We found Terranova turned into Terratitlán with a beautiful and colorful decoration of “papel picado” hand made by teacher Delfina Pérez Ochoa. On the basketball court we found a town plaza with its kiosk ready for the event, prepared in all its details by teachers and students coordinated by art teacher Claudia Valencia. There a comedy by high school students started introducing one by one the differnte folk dances of the many regions of Mexico. The first one, was executed by the “Ballet Folklórico de Ixtlahuacan de los Membrillos” surprising us all. Following we saw the high school students participating full of enthusiasm: Paco Pelayo, Julia Mendoza, Lia Velazquez y Gerardo Barroso leading the show introduced each one of the groups: Machetes, Viejitos, etc, all the way down to the first graders who drew a big smile on our faces as we saw them display their skills with grace.. Aplauses exploded at every number. Some fathers and mothers were wearing typical mexican dresses. They formed a catwalk and the best received a price. The event concluded with the students bringing flowers to their mothers and then enjoying the Mexican “antojitos” like tacos, tamales, elotes, etc., while the firecrackers were lighting the sky. The Principal, Maria Del Refugio Pérez, the Academia Coordinator, Luís López Ramírez, The Coordinator of Human Formation, Aída Villaseñor Méndez, and the Engish Coordinator Linda Dwyer, looked satisfied of the result of the team work of teachers and students .
